Hey, what’s up, hello (from the other side) –

The hype has been nearly palpable, it hurts. For the past few weeks now, we’ve been bombarding your feeds with this elusive, exclusive, impending phenomenon: The Rival.

10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and …..

Happy 2.21.16!

Let us dive right in, shall we?

What is “The Rival,” and why should you care? The Rival began in Washington, DC at GW University in 2014, when student writers realized they needed an outlet to candidly curate news, independent from the university, about the university. Nightlife, campus controversies, local culture, politics, relationships — the possibilities are bigger than the Bronx. The promotion of student discussion without an institutional filter sparks change in a way that traditional news aggregators don’t allow, makes an impact on our perception of the world at large, and most importantly, has just the right amount of sex and edge to attract and maintain a population of readers. What better time than now for Fordham to get in on this hit??

We are in the process of perfecting the art that is the marriage of information and entertainment. This is the platform for students to engage and expand their creative voice. We respect your intelligence, and so are here to give you the smart news you deserve.

The Rival’s Mission stands to educate, entertain, engage + excite, from an online platform. We stand true to this mission prescribed by the OG founders: to “rival” all other student publications, to modernize campus news, to truly capture a native student voice, to be thought leaders and creative trendsetters on campus, and to produce content that sets the bar for our generation.

We’re here to reinforce the element of “challenge” it presents. @TheRivalFordham is here to provide an alternate voice to what already exists, to spark dialogue.  If other news sources react to our presence in a way that stirs them up or ruffles feathers, then good, we’re doing our job.  We’re challenging people to feel the pressure to step up their game, because, competition breeds success.

For the past two months, we have been selling our souls to ensure we ensue the most beautiful chaos as the Rival hits the Boogie Down, and today’s the day we go live.

Its ~~~~historical~~~~ if you will.

So, we, your founding fathhhas, can’t contain our excitement for whats upon us. As your Directors of Content + Communication, we’d like to formally welcome you to The Rival.

And who are “we”?

Jessica, your Director of Content and a member of the Class of 2017, studies Communications with a concentration in TV/Radio. She is a member of Free Pizza, which ironically has nothing to do with freedom or food (#SketchComedy). She’s a rambler, (in terms of conversation…) … and a Satin Doll for all those whom she’s confused. She is currently an intern at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Tay, your Director of Communication, also a member of the Class of 2017, studies Journalism, with a creative writing minor. In the time she isn’t stomping her Stuart’s down to Town & Country magazine for her editorial internship, she can be found performing with Fordham Flava. Washington, DC is home, but DC also doesn’t have penne a la vodka pizza.

There you have it. Read on, friends. Boomark the shit out of it.
